The Psychology of Love
September 10 (Friday), 7:00-9:00 pm
Presenter: Pittman McGehee

Back by popular demand, Pittman McGehee will lead us through an exploration of what Jung called, in his later years, "the incalculable paradoxes of love."  Our single word "love" fails to adequately capture and express the powerful, often contradictory feelings that drive behavior and animate one's soul.  We will turn to the three Greek words for love (Eros, Philia, and Agape) and explore the psychological distinctions they express.  We will look at both the inter-personal and intra-psychic dynamics of love, as well as its light and dark sides.  Finally, we will address the healing and wounding nature of this greatest of paradoxes.

Exploring The Paradox of Love
September 11 (Saturday), 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Presenter: Pittman McGehee

Carl Jung called "love" one of the incalculable paradoxes of human existence.  This workshop will dig deep into the powerful, often contradictory, feelings that drive behavior and touch our souls regarding the tremendously important feeling of love.  Sanskrit has 96 words for love, ancient Persian has 80, Greek has three and English has only one.  Robert Johnson writes, "[w]here there is no terminology, there is no consciousness."  We will explore in depth these complex Jungian concepts of love, both the light and dark sides, and make them more accessible.  With understanding and insight comes healing.
