The Outdoor Labyrinth

The Chrysalis Group holds several special events at its Outdoor Labyrinth throughout the year. At other times, the Labyrinth is open to the public during daylight hours.

An ancient, mystical tool, the Labyrinth is a walking meditation used by many cultures and religious traditions. Unlike a maze, there is only a single, clear path in and out. A walk through the Labyrinth has come to symbolize the spiritual journey. Concentric circles weave and twist as they direct you to the center, the place of illumination. The Labyrinth is a sacred place to empty yourself and find enrichment.

Come alone, with a partner, or with a group, but plan to walk the Labyrinth in silence. As you enter, shed worldly concerns, quiet your mind, and simply be in the moment. As you move to the center, you might reflect on the meaning of your life history, contemplate an image, or ask questions about your direction, identity, or spiritual path. Walk (or skip, or dance) at your own pace and in your own style; there is no right or wrong way to experience the Labyrinth. When you reach the center, stay for a while, opening yourself to guidance or illumination. As you return to the outside, retrace the steps you took to the center -- a reminder that we do not remain at the center, but return to our lives in the world of ordinariness, bringing gifts that we have gained along the way. After completing your walk, consider staying a while to pray, meditate, write in your journal, or simply enjoy the silence.
